Smith and McCullum chase down a mammoth total of 189 - The 12th match of the Indian Premiere League was played in Mumbai. In this match the Mumbai Indians hosted the Chennai Super Kings. It was a test for the home team as they have lost all their matches in this tournament and were looking to bounce back using the home conditions. On the other hand Chennai were coming after winnings all their matches in the tournament. after winning the toss the Mumbai Indians decided to bat first.

The Mumbai team had a devastating start to the innings as Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel lost their wickets early leaving the team at a score of 6/2. Corey Anderson too failed to score more than 4 runs as Mumbai headed once again to a big trouble. Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh stuck together to take their team to total of 57 runs in 9.3 overs. Singh scored 24 runs as he lost his wicket in the 10th over to bring in Kieron Pollard. Rohit and Pollard changed the game all alone as they scored some quick runs to give the team some hope. Rohit scored 50 runs in 31 balls while Pollard scored 64 runs off 30 balls. Ambati Rayudu too played his part to score 29 runs off 16 balls. The Mumbai Indians scored 183 runs. Ashish Nehra took 3 wickets in the match to be the most successful bowler in the match.

It was a tough total for any team to chase but the opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum batted Mumbai out of the game in the first 6 overs. The pair scored 109 runs in 7.2 overs to bat Mumbai out. McCullum scored a blasting 20 ball 46 runs. Smith scored 62 runs off 30 balls. Suresh Raina guided the team home scoring 43 runs in 29 balls. The Chennai team chased down the total in just 17th over of the game making the mockery of Mumbai bowling attack.

Kieron Pollard won the Yes Bank maximum sixes award fir hitting 5 sixes. Brendon McCullum won the HotStar award for his spectacular shots.  Ashish Nehra was named as the man of the match.
