Kings XI Punjab wins the 1st match in Group B - The 2nd match of the OPPO Champions League T20 2014 was played between Kings XI Punjab and Hobart Hurricanes. This was a group B match and was played in Mohali. It was a home venue for the Kings XI and they had a good idea about the conditions. After winning the toss the Kings XI Punjab decided to field first.

Batting first the Hobart Hurricanes were unable to strike the ball from the middle of the bat. Tim Paine the captain of the team was the first one to be bowled out. He scored only 11 runs and the team was found struggling at 15/1 in 4.2 overs. Ben Dunk and Aiden Blizzard got a good partnership and increased the scoring rate for the team. Dunk after scoring 26 runs lost his wicket. Blizzard played a knock of 27 runs before losing the wicket. The Hurricanes seemed to be under control but the 12th and 13th over gave momentum to the kings XI bowlers. They took 2 consecutive wickets. Travis Brit and Jonathan Wells batted off brilliantly as they scored 28 runs each to take their team to a total of 144. Thisara Perera took 2 wickets in the match.

Kings XI Punjab was favorites to win this match. The Hurricanes though created some problems for the top order. Virender Sehwag lost his wicket in the very first ball of the innings. Manan Vohra and Wriddhiman Saha tried to bat well but the Hurricanes struck again taking Saha’s wicket first as he lost his wicket after scoring 11 runs. The 4th over saw dangerous David Miller loses his wicket too. The Kings XI was struggling at 23/3. Vohra in the 8th over lost his wicket after scoring 18 runs. Glenn Maxwell and George Bailey were on the crease and it was Maxwell yet again who scored some good runs for the team. he scored 43 runs of 25 balls but lost his wicket in the 11th over leaving his team at 77/5. Thisara Perera and Bailey made sure that the team didn’t lost any more wicket as they glided their team home for an easy win. Perera scored 35 runs while Bailey scored 34 runs in the match as the Kings XI won the match by 5 wickets. Travis Brit won Suzuki Gixxer power player for hitting maximum sixes because of highest six of 85m. He won 2500 USD as an award. Thisara Perera won 2500 USD as he was selected as Oppo man of the match for all round performance.
