Russell and Ryan help Kolkata Knight Riders to win a thrilling match - The opener of any major tournament is considered as the highlight of tournament. Oppo Champions League T20 2014 got its major opener with the IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Chennai Super Kings in a group a match. This match was played in the city of Hyderabad. After winning the toss Kolkata Knight Riders decided to field first. Looking at the pitch both the captains agreed that it would be a good pitch to bat.

Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum stepped out to open for the Chennai Super Kings. They together scored 37 runs in 4 overs. Smith was the first one to go as he lost his wicket after scoring 20 runs. The Spinners did the trick for Kolkata Knight Riders as Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan and Sunil Narine took a wicket each. McCullum lost his wicket after scoring 22 runs. Suresh Raina one of the most consistent batsmen too was not able to score much as he scored only 28 runs. Faf du Plessis the dangerous batsman from South Africa scored only 14 runs before losing his wicket to Chawla. Later Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo managed to bring the team back in the match by scoring some quick runs in the end. They scored 35 and 28 runs respectively to take their team to a total of 157 runs. Chawla was the pick of the bowler taking 2 wickets while Narine had the best economy of 2.25.

Chasing a score of 158 the IPL champions had a terrible start. They were reduced to a score of 21/4 by Ashish Nehra as he took 3 wickets early. The 5th wicket of the team fell at a score of 51 bringing in Andre Russell to the crease. The team needed another 107 runs to win of 11 overs. Ryan ten Doeschate was on the crease as these two batsmen played a game which no one could believe as they turned things around with some great hitting Russell scored 58 runs off 25 balls thus setting up a good win. He hit the ball out of the ground 5 times. Ryan ten Doeschate managed to finish the game for the Kolkata Knight Riders scoring 51 runs. The IPL champions won the 1st match of CLT20 by 3 wickets. With this win now Kolkata Knight Riders earned 4 points from it. Andre Russell was named as the OPPO man of the match for his outstanding batting and he also won Suzuki Gixxer power player award for hitting the maximum number of 6’s in the match, 2500 USD each.
