Lahore Lions start the tournament with a win against the defending champions - After a rain affected 1st qualifying match the 2nd match was a full game at the same venue in Raipur city. This match was played between the Mumbai Indians an Indian team and the Lahore Lions a team from Pakistan. It was not only a match between two franchises but it was considered nothing less than an India versus Pakistan tie. The stadium was almost full with excitement. After winning the toss the Lahore Lions decided to field first. Mumbai Indians the defending champions of the tournament was unable to get to a good start as many wickets fell early. In the 5th over the team was reduced to 23/3. Later Michael Hussey and Aditya Tare tried to control the innings and together took their team to a score of 67 in 11 overs. Hussey lost his wicket in the 12th over of the game. He scored 28 runs in 26 balls. Kieron Pollard the captain too didn’t manage to score good amount of runs. It was Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar who made sure that the team had some runs in the pocket as they scored 18 and 20 runs respectively taking their team to 135 in 20 overs. Aizaz Cheema was the top bowler who took 2 wickets giving away 22 runs.

The Lahore Lions after some great bowling got off to a good start with the bat too. Nasir Jamshed and Ahmed Shehzad took their team to a score of 51 in just 7.4 overs. The very next over Pragyan Ojha took the wicket of Shehzad as he was at a score of 34 runs. Harbhajan Singh provided a big breakthrough for the defending champions taking the wicket of Jamshed. He scored 26 runs before being stumped. Mohammad Hafeez and Asif Raza played a little cameo in the match scoring 18 and 14 runs respectively but the star of the game was Umar Akmal who scored 34 runs in 17 balls to take his team beyond the required runs with 9 balls still remaining. Umar Akmal was elected as the OPPO man of the match award as Lahore Lions earn 4 points in the qualifying round.
