Northern Knights wins the rain hit match easily - The Champions League T20 one of the most awaited T20 franchise cricket started off today with the qualification round. The first match of the tournament started off with the Southern Express a team representing Sri Lanka played against the Northern Districts a team from New Zealand. The first match of the series was disrupted by the rain. The match started off late due to rain and was reduced to just 10 overs. Northern Districts won this all important toss and they decided to field first. The openers Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka gave them a good start. The team reached a score of 55 runs in just 6 overs. Scott Styris in the last ball of the 6th over took the wicket of Perera. He lost his wicket after scoring 37 runs in 20 balls. Later Gunathilaka scored 39 runs in 26 balls to take his team to a score of 92 in 10 overs. The middle order failed to score much and the good start was wasted by the team. Trent Boult was the best over as he took 2 wickets in his 2 overs.

The Northern Districts got off to a great start scoring 41 runs in just 3 overs. Anton Devcich after scoring 14 runs lost his wicket. Kane Williamson was the top batsman in the team as he scored 52 runs in the innings. He scored this run in just 29 balls and took his team closer to the victory. He got help from Daniel Flynn who scored 14 runs while Daniel Harris made sure that he helped the team cross the required runs mark with just 3 balls left in the game. Farveez Maharoof was the best bowler as he took 2 wickets in his 2 overs. Kane Williamson was named as the oppo man of the match for his outstanding batting performance. With this the Northern Districts earn 4 points and go a step towards qualifying for the main tournament.
