The cricket governing body of South Africa has declared that they will welcome West Indies in the month of Feb and Mar 2023 for a 3 T20 matches series. The South Africa vs West Indies T20 series 2023 will begin with the first T20I at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Sat, Mar 25, then the second T20 will be held in the same stadium on Sun, Mar 26, 2023. Afterward, both squads will travel to Johannesburg in order to play the last T20I of the SA vs WI T20 series 2023 at The Wanderers Stadium on Tue, Mar 28.
Most probably, the current skipper of the West Indies T20 squad, Nicholas Pooran will lead the side in Africa. In contrast, Temba Bavuma, the captain of limited-over cricket, will take command of South Africa. Nicholas Pooran who made his T20 debut against Pakistan in 2016 has already contributed 1,398 runs for his team in T20. On the other hand, Temba Bavuma is the right-handed middle-order batsman and has made 562 runs. Currently, South Africa is in the 4th position and West Indies is in the 8th position in the ICC T20 team ranking.
In terms of head-to-head in T20 cricket, South Africa and West Indies have played against each other in 16 T20I matches where South Africa has got the upper hand by winning 10 T20I whereas West Indies could achieve victory in 6 T20 matches. Overall, South Africa has appeared in 160 T20 internationals where they won 92 matches and lost 65 matches. On the other hand, West Indies has played 174 T20 matches till October 2022 and won 70 T20Is and 91 lost 91 matches. The last T20 series between both nations was played in June 2021 where South Africa won the series by a margin of 3-2.
