Zimbabwe Cricket, the authority of Zimbabwe cricket, has officially declared that they will host 3 ODI matches series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in the month of July and August in 2022. Bangladesh cricket board also confirmed their visit to Zimbabwe for appearing in the Zim vs Ban ODI 2022 series, and the tour calendar including match date, timing, and hosting venues is finalized by Zimbabwe cricket.
The ODI series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh will commence with the first ODI at Harare Sports Club, Harare on 5th August 2022, then the second ODI of the series will be held at the same stadium on 7th August 2022, and finally, the series will conclude on 10th August 2022 in Harare.
Most probably, the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, which is also famous as Bangla Tigers, will be Tamim Iqbal for the Zimbabwe white ball tour whereas Craig Ervine will take the responsibility of captain for the Zimbabwe squad. Bangladesh improved their game in every field in some previous years and achieved the 7th position in the ICC ODI team ranking leaving behind teams like Sri Lanka, and West Indies who have been the ODI World Champions. On the other hand, Zimbabwe is not even in the top 10 ranking of the ICC and currently, Zimbabwe is at number 15th position.
In terms of head-to-head in ODI since 1997, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have faced each other on the field in 78 ODI matches where Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe 50 times and Zimbabwe could win only on 28 occasions. This shows Bangladesh has a good ODI record as compared to Zimbabwe. Overall, as of July 2022, Zimbabwe has appeared in 544 ODI matches and he achieved victory in 140 ODI matches and faced defeat in 384 matches. On the other hand, Bangladesh has appeared in 396 ODI matches where they won 142 matches and failed to achieve victory in 247 matches.
Previously, Bangladesh visited Zimbabwe in July 2021 in order to play 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches series. In that series, Bangladesh won the 3 ODI series by a 3-0 margin and the T20 series by a 2-0 margin. In 2022, it would be interesting to see how Bangladesh will perform in Zimbabwe. Will they repeat history or will Zimbabwe create history in upcoming Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh ODI series 2022.
