From 1930 to 1978, both the nations played 18 test series and New Zealand got their first triumph against England in the 18th test series. The series was concluded with 1-1 drawn but New Zealand finally got the first victory after 48 years. Finally, New Zealand broke the chain of defeat and won their first test series against England in 1983-84 by 2-1 in New Zealand.
