Australian bowlers take them to victory in the 1st ODI - After a gruelling T20 series the teams of Australia and South Africa met in a 5 match ODI series. The 1st ODI of the series was played in the WACA stadium situated in Perth. In this match after winning the toss the South Africans decided to field first.

Batting first the home team got off to a good start. David Warner and Aaron Finch took their team to a score of 94 runs losing a wicket in the 15th over. Warner was the first one to go after scoring 46 runs. In the same over Finch too lost his wicket after scoring 35 runs. The middle order players found it difficult to play and contribute in the game. George Bailey was the only exception in the game as he scored 70 runs and remained on the wicket till the 44th over of the game. He was accompanied well by Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell as they scored 35 and 29 runs respectively. At the end of 50 overs the Australians were able to score 300 runs. Vernon Philander was the best bowler taking 4 wickets in the game for the team.

The South Africans while chasing the score of 300 required a good start but this is what the visitors lacked. The team lost 4 wickets at a score of 76 runs in 16th over. the visitors had almost all the chance of winning the match. AB de Villiers and David Miller made sure that the match was not lost easily as they together scored some good amount of runs. They together took the score to 202 in 37 overs. Miller lost his wicket after scoring 65 runs. This fall of wicket made way for the Australians yet again as they took few more wickets and the team was reduced to 222/9. The team was able to score only 268 runs in 48.1 overs. De Villiers scored 80 runs before losing his wicket. Nathan Coulter-Nile was able to take 4 wickets and was named as man of the match. Australia won the 1st math by 32 runs.
