South Africans win the series riding on Amla’s century - After losing their first ODI match in the home grounds the New Zealanders were looking to make a comeback in the series against South Africa. The 2nd ODI was one of the most important matches to remain alive in the series. This match was played at the Bay Oval.

After winning the toss the New Zealand decided to field first. In this match the opening pair of Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock gave a good start of 56 runs. Kock after scoring 26 lost his wicket in the 13th over of the match. Later Faf du Plessis joined Amla and took the wagon forward for South Africa. They together took their team to a score of 169 runs in 33 overs. The first ball of the 34th over saw the fall of Kock’s wicket after scoring 67 runs in the match. AB de Villiers came in for du Plessis and he scored 37 runs before leaving his team to a score of 235 runs in 43rd over. The next few wickets fell in search of some quick runs in the depth. These wickets included the wicket of Amla who scored 119 runs. The team managed to reach a score of 282 runs in 50 overs.

The New Zealand batting order once again failed to give a good start as the top order collapsed losing 3 wickets at a score of 61 in just 17 overs of the game. His fall of wickets never stopped as at a score of 104 runs the home team lost 8 wickets. Luke Ronchi continued his continued his good wok as he scored 79 runs in this match. The home teams batting problems continued as they were restricted to a score of 210 runs by the South African bowlers. They lost the 2nd match by 72 runs. Amla was named as the man of the match for his perfect batting display. The South Africans now lead the series by 2-0.
