South Africa vs Australia T20 Series 2020


T20 international cricket series between Australia and South African cricket team was held in February of 2020. The series was composed of 3 matches. The tour began with the first match at Johannesburg, South Africa on February 21, Friday.  South African team was lead by wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton De Kock while Aaron Finch was the captain of Australian team. Both the teams had explosive T20 players and good cricket was expected from both the teams. It was considered tough and perfect series for both the sides before T20 World cup.

In the first match of series Australian team dominated over South African team and won the first match of the series and took an early lead. Captain Finch showed his experience and class in this match and played a match-winning inning for the team. Captain Finch scored 42 runs, and Steve Smith scored 45 runs which helped the team to get 196 runs in 20 over. Australian team showed clinical performance in all departments of the game and defeated South African side. South African batsmen collapsed in this match and got all out in just 15 over on 89 runs. This was the lowest T20 international score by South African team.  Australian left-arm spin bowler AC Agar took 5 wickets and a hat trick in this match and was selected as player of the match. In the post-match presentation, the Australian skipper congratulated and motivated the other players of the team. On the other end, South African captain looked disappointed with the performance of the team and promised to fight back in 2nd match.

The 2nd match of the series was played at Port Elizabeth, South Africa on February 23, Sunday. The match was on Sunday, and the ground was filled with supporters of both the teams. The ground was small, and it was a must-win match for South African team while Australia had a chance to seal the series by winning this match. Therefore this was the most crucial match of the series. South African captain won the toss and decided to bat first. Captain De Kock played captain innings in this match and scored the most 70 runs and lead the team from the front in this match. South African team gave a considerable target of 159 runs to Australian team. Apart from David Warner South African team was collapsed and South Africa won the match by 12 runs and levelled the series. De Kock was declared as the player of the match for brilliant batting performance.

The 3rd or last match of the series was held on February 26, Wednesday at Newlands Cricket Ground, South Africa. This was the series-deciding match. South African team won the toss and elected to field first. Both openers of Australian team gave a brilliant start with 120 runs partnership for 1st wicket to the team. Both the batsman scored half-centuries and helped the team to get a total of 193 runs. In the second inning, while chasing this score, South African batting collapsed badly and got all out on only 96 runs, and Australian team won the match by 97 runs and also won the series by 2-1. Aaron Finch was selected as the player of the series.
