Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings defeated the Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets and 3 balls to spare at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in the game 33 of IPL 7. Earlier in the match Dhoni won the toss and invited the host team to bat first. Mumbai picked West Indian batsman Lendl Simmons for this crucial match who made 38 runs from 38 balls while opening for the team. But the star batsman for the MI team was Ambati Rayudu (59 runs off 43 balls) who played a composed innings and helped his team to score 157/6 from 20 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the star bowler from the CSK team as he picked 3 important wickets in this match. Ishwar Pandey, Mohit Sharma and the other spinner Samuel Badri shared one wicket each.  It was a quite a good bowling performance by the CSK unit as they managed to restrict MI team to edge past the par score of 160.

To chase this total what Chennai team needed was a strong partnership, and the inform batsman Dwaine Smith (57 off 51 balls) and Faf du Plessis (31 off 24 balls) produced a fifty run stand to ease the chasing work. However, after the dismissal of these two batsmen things went bad for the CSK team for a while but the Captain Cool himself took the responsibility to secure a win for his team. Finally Dhoni made 22 runs from just 12 balls, including 1 six and 1 four in the very last over.

Both Praveen Kumar and Lasith Malinga took 2 wickets each, and Kieron Pollard claimed one wicket but he conceded huge 42 runs from just 2.3 overs. Malinga was the pick of the bowlers from the Mumbai side for his amazing bowling figure of 4-0-15-2.

Dwaine Smith yet again was chosen as the Man of the Match for this game due to his composed batting display. He proved once again that Mumbai made a huge mistake by not retaining him for this year’s team.
