West Indies wins the first test match convincingly - After the 3 match ODI series, Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies moved forward with the 1st test match of the test series being played at St Vincent. Both the teams have been suffering in this format of cricket over the past.Bangladesh captain after winning the toss decided to field first.

On Day 1 the opening pair of West Indies made sure that their team got a good start. For the 1st wicket the home team scored 116 runs. Chris Gayle after scoring 64 runs lost his wickets andsoon the visitors struck, taking the 2nd wicket. Kirk Edwards lost his wicket after scoring 10 runs. The team was at 133/2. The 1st day ended for the home side at a score of 264/3. The 3rd wicket of the home side fell just before stumps on day 1. A well settled Darren Bravo after scoring 62 runs lost his wicket.

On Day 2 the home side made full use of the conditions scoring some good runs after a delayed start. The match started off late due to rain. Later Kraigg Brathwaite and Shivnarine Chanderpaul piled on the overnight total of 264. The 2nd day ended up for the home side at 407/3. The home side didn’t lose a single wicket and Brathwaite was on 205 while Chanderpaul ended the day at 51 runs. In all sorts it was a tough day for the visitors as they had to field and bowl hard throughout the day.

The 3rd day of the match proved out to be an interesting one as the home side ended their 1st innings at a score of 484/7. Brathwaite ended his innings at a score of 212 while Chanderpaul remained unbeaten on 85. Taijul Islam the Bangladeshi bowler took 5 wickets in his debut match. The 3rd day also showed a dismal performance from the Bangladesh batting unit. At lunch of 3rd day the visitors were 41 for the loss of 2 wickets. Before going to tea on 3rd day the visitors also lost 2 wickets. The team reached a score of 105/4. The last session of the day saw visitors lose the remaining wickets to the spinner Sulieman Benn. The team was bowled out at a score of 182. Mominul Haque was the top scorer in the team as he scored 51 while captain Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten at a score of 48.

On the 4th day
the home side enforced follow-on on the visitors. the 2nd innings of Bangladesh didn’t start well. Before reaching lunch at day 4 the team had already lost 4 wickets reaching a score of 110. It seemed that the visitors will once again a humiliating defeat. Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim batted out well and together stitched a partnership of 130 runs. just before the end of the day the home team got success in the form of Mahmudullah who after scoring 66 runs lost his wicket.

Day 5 was just a formality as the lower order of Bangladesh team was unable to show resistance. They lost the wickets quite easily and the last 4players scored a duck in their innings. the team ended their second innings at 314 runs setting up a target of 13 runs only. Rahim scored 116 runs in this innings. Kemar Roach took 4 wickets as the home side easily score the required runs thus winning the match by 10 wickets. Kraigg Brathwaite was selected as the player of this match for his outstanding batting. With this win the West Indies now lead the 2 match series by 1-0.
