Pakistan bats Australia out of the 1st test match - After a successful T20 and ODI series in UAE the Australians were supposed to play a 2 match test series in the country against Pakistan. This test series was an interesting one as Pakistan was a team which before this series was a failure in this format while on the other hand Australia was undergoing a transition period. It was a series that was to be played between two equals and no one superseded other in this format of the game.

The 1st match was played in the Dubai International Stadium. After winning the toss the Pakistan team decided to bat first. The start was not that good for the home team as the openers lost their wicket quite cheaply but the middle order clicked and scored great amount of runs. Azhar Ali and Younis Khan together for the 3rd wicket scored 108 runs. Ali after scoring 53 runs lost his wicket bringing in Misbah-ul-Haq. Younis khan then departed leaving scoring a wonderful 106 runs for the team. Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz Ahmed too contributed well along with Misbah. They scored 89,109 and 69 runs respectively. The home team ended their 1st innings scoring 454 runs. Mitchell Johnson took 3 wickets in the innings. The Australians too started off will as the opening pair of Chris Rogers and David Warner provided them a start of 128 runs. Rogers was the 1st one to go after scoring 38 runs. Later the whole team scored in bits and pieces while Warner was the only one to shine scoring 133 runs. With those small contributions the visiting team ended their 1st innings at a score of 303 runs. Yasir Shah took 3 wickets in the innings.

Pakistan had a lead of 151 runs in the 2nd innings to start off with. The top order batsmen from the team ensured that the team made full use of the advantage as Ahmed Shehzad and Younis Khan scored 131 and 103 runs respectively to take the teams score to 286 runs in the 2nd innings. Just after tea on the 4th Day Pakistan declared their innings setting up a target of 438 runs for Australia to win it. It was a tough task to win the match but a sensible batting would have led to a draw for Australia. The openers once again started off steady but after reaching a score of 44 the team lost the wicket of David Warner. This wicket exposed the middle order which was out of form and the team was reduced to 59/4 at the end of Day 4. With 6 wickets in hand the team started of their 5th day but the requirement was too high for them to save the match. Steven Smith and Mitchell Johnson were the only batsmen who scored runs freely and played a sensible cricket as they scored 55 and 61 runs respectively. Apart from them the whole middle order collapsed cheaply and hence the Australian finished the 2nd innings at 216 runs thus losing the 1st match by 221 runs.

It was one of the best cricket displays by Pakistan in this format of cricket. Younis Khan was named as the man of the match as the team now led the 2 match series by 1-0.
