England vs Pakistan Test Series 2020


The 3 match Test series was played between Pakistan and England in August of 2020 in England. Both teams played good cricket but the host England won the series by 1-0. England also gained good points in ICC World Test Championship.

The 1st match of the series was played on August 5, Wednesday at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. Joe Root was the Skipper of English team and Azhar Ali was the captain of Pakistan team. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first in 1st match of the series. Pakistani opener Masood scored 156 runs in the 1st inning. Babar Azam also scored 69 runs and Shadab Khan also scored 45 runs. Pakistan scored 326 runs in their first inning. Broad and Jofra Archer took 3 wickets each.

In 1st Inning England openers failed to give good start to team. Ollie Pope scored 62 runs and Wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler also scored 38 runs in 1st inning. England scored 219 runs in their first inning. Yasir Shah took 4 wickets for Pakistan.

England played good cricket in 2nd inning and bowled good deliveries. Pakistan got all out on 169 runs in 2nd inning and it was a target of 277 runs for England to win the match. Broad took 3 wickets in 2nd inning. English opener D Sibley scored 36 runs and Joe Root scored 42 runs. But it was the performance by Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes which helped England to win the match. Chris Woakes scored not out 84 runs and was also the player of the match.

The 2nd test match of the series was held from August 13 to 17, Thursday at Southampton. Mohammad Rizwan scored 72 runs and Abid Ali 60 runs for Pakistan in the 1st inning. Zak Crawley scored 53 runs 53 runs for England but the match was interrupted by rain. The match was withdrawn due to rain and England scored 110/4 when the day 5 games end.  

The 3rd and final test was again played at Southampton from August 21 to 25. Zak Crawley scored 267 runs in the 1st inning for England. Jos Buttler also scored 152 runs and England made a huge total of 583 runs in the 1st inning. S Afridi, Yasir Shah and Fawad Alam took 2 wickets each for Pakistan in the 1st inning. Pakistani Captain Azhar Ali also played not out 141 runs captain inning and Pakistan scored 273 runs in 1st inning. James Anderson bowled brilliantly in the 1st inning and took 5 wickets for England.  

England captain Joe Root gave follow on to Pakistan and Babar Azam scored not out 63 runs for Pakistan in 2nd inning. Pakistan finished as 187/4 at the end of day 5. The 3rd and final test match was drawn. England won the series by 1-0. Zak Crawley was awarded as player of the match for his brilliant 267 runs. English Wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler and Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Mohammad Rizwan were selected as players of the series for their brilliant performances throughout the series.
