England vs West Indies Test Series 2020


The 3 match Test series (Raise The Bat Test Series) was played between West Indies and England in July of 2020 in England. Both teams played good cricket but the host England dominated over West Indian side and won the series by 2-1. This series also has influenced England team rankings in ICC World Test Championship.

The 1st match of the series was played from July 8 to 12, at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. Ben Stokes was the Skipper of English team and Jason Holder was the captain of West Indian team. England had won the toss and decided to bat first in the 1st match of the series. English openers failed to give good start to team and the team could manage only 204 runs in their first innings. Holder took 6 wickets and Gabriel took 4 wickets. In 1st inning West Indian openers gave good start to team and K Braithwaite scored most 65 runs for West Indies. Wicket-keeper batsman Dowrich also scored 61 runs in 1st inning. Ben Stokes took 4 wickets for England. England played good cricket in 2nd inning and scored 313 runs. Both openers scored runs and D Sibley made brilliant half century. Captain Stokes also scored 46 runs while Z Crawley, middle order batsman, scored most 76 runs for England. Gabriel took 5 wickets for West Indies. The target was 200 runs for West Indies to win the 1st test. J Blackwood scored brilliant 95 runs and helped West Indies to win the game. S Gabriel was selected as player of the match for his brilliant bowling. He took 9 wickets in the match.

The 2nd test match of the series was played from July 16 to 20, at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. England team was captained by Joe Root. Stuart Broad was also available for this match and was in playing 11. West Indies had won the toss and decided to bowl first. English opener D Sibley had made brilliant century and made 120 runs while Ben Stokes also scored brilliant century and made 176 runs. England had made 469 runs in their 1st inning. West Indies could manage to score 287 runs and K Braithwaite scored most 75 runs for West Indies. In the 2nd Inning, Ben Stokes opened the inning for England and made not out 78 runs. England had declared their innings on 129 and gave a target of 312 runs. West Indies team got all out on 198 runs and England won the match. Ben Stokes was declared as the player of the match.

The 3rd test match was the series decider. West Indies had won the toss and decided to bowl first. England batsman Pope scored 91 runs and English team had scored 369 runs in 1st inning. West Indies team could not bat well and disappointed their fans. They only managed to score 197 runs. England declared their 2nd inning on 226 and gave a target of 399 runs to West Indies. West Indies batting collapsed badly and got all out on just 129 runs and England won the third match also. Stuart Broad was selected as player of the match for his 10 wickets in match and 62 runs with bat.

England won the series by 2-1 and Broad was selected as the player of the series for his brilliant performance.
