Ireland after winning their 1st match against Zimbabwe in the last over of the game was looking to win their second match while facing United Arab Emirates. On the other the UAE were starting their maiden WT20 campaign and after a good performance in Asia cup were confident of a good show. Ireland won the toss and decided to field first. The wickets started tumbling for UAE and they couldn’t utilize the start given to them by their openers. A good and disciplined bowling performance of Ireland insured that UAE batsmen cannot score some easy runs. At the end of the first innings the batting team was able to score only 123 runs which was less than what they desired off.

Ireland started off well and reached a score of 103 for the loss of 3 wickets in the 15th over. The team was cursing towards their second victory when a power failure due to an impending storm caused a black put in the stadium. Soon the lights were back in full power and the game resumed. But this was temporary as there was a complete blackout just after two balls. This caused the match to be called off and D/L method was applied to the result which saw Ireland win the game by 21 runs. EC Joyce for his 43 runs knock was awarded the player of the match award.
