Afghanistan and Hong Kong contested the 5th match in World T20 2014 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium at Chittagong on 18th March. Hong Kong won the toss and decided to bat in first inning. Irfan Ahmed and Waqas Barkat opened the batting order for Hong Kong. In an attempt to swing his bat and send the ball off field, Irfan missed it and got bold out on Shapoor Zadran’s balling. Jamie Atkinson came and contributed 31 runs in 20 balls before being dismissed by Hamza Hotak by a lbw. Mark Chapman also contributed 38 runs. After Chapman, the next batsmen did not stay for long on pitch. One by one wickets were falling down in consecutive overs. The final score with 16 extra runs for Hong Kong was 153 runs.

In came Afghanistan with Najeeb Tarakai and Mohammad Shahzad. Tarakai was dismissed in third over by a catch taken by Nadeem Ahmad. Shahzad handled the team by contributing 68 runs in 53 balls. After a brief contribution by Asghar Stanikzai, Shafiqullah put up another 51 runs in 24 balls and stayed on pitch with Mohammad Nabi who put up another 6 runs in 5 balls to take Afghanistan to victory. Mohammad Shahzad was declared Man of match while Afghanistan took the lead by 2 points.
