West Indies vs New Zealand T20 Series 2014 Schedule

After the end of the test series the New Zealanders were scheduled to play a two match twenty 20 series against the West Indies. The home side in this format has some great players who on their day can be dangerous enough to win the matches. The mystery spinner Sunil Narine was one of the biggest factors in this series. The home team was all set to miss the services of their star batsman Chris Gayle while the Kiwis surely looked to make the tour a most successful one.

The first match of the series was played in Windsor Park in Dominica. In the first match played on 5th of July there was a short delay in the start of the game. This was because of the pre-match rain. Due to the rain the match was reduced to 18 over a side game. After winning the toss the visitors decided to field first. This decision was treated with some special bowling which resulted in two quick wickets. Trent Boult in his 1st over took the wicket of dangerous Lendl Simmons. The very next over of the game saw Tim Southee the kiwi ace bowler takes the wicket of Dwayne Smith. By the end of the 3rd over both the openers were in the pavilion. Andre Fletcher and Darren Bravo controlled the falling apart of the team. Bravo after scoring 30 runs off 28 balls departed in the 13th over. Just after 7 balls Fletcher too departed after scoring a wonderful 52 runs. The home side was at 104/4 after 14.1 overs. The team’s middle order failed to score much runs and at the end of 20 overs team could manage only 132 runs. Southee was the star bowler taking 2 wickets by giving away only 20 runs.

The chase in the 1st match saw a good solid start from New Zealand. In 8 overs the team managed to cross the 50 run mark by losing only 1 wicket. The rain always was a threat in the game and the visitors made sure that they were well above the required rate. Brendon McCullum played a great role as he scored 40 runs to take his team to a score of 117 in 15 overs. It is when the rain came down and the visitors won the match by D/L method.

The second match was played in the same venue as the 1st one. Yet again the visitors after winning the toss elected to field first. The home side this time got a good solid start. It was yet again Andre Fletcher who batted brilliantly in the innings scoring 62 runs in 49 balls. He got a great support from Lendl Simmons who scored 36 runs. At the end it was Andre Russell and Darren Sammy who made sure that their team reach a score of 165. Trent Boultwas the best bowler for the side in this match taking 2 wickets and giving away only 22 runs.

The visitors while chasing got a great start in the match scoring 82 runs in 12 overs by losing only 3 wickets. The team had the entire base to fire up at the end overs to achieve the target. Kane Williamson was the best batsman in the team who scored 37 runs. But at the end it was the West Indian bowlers who made the difference in the match. They created the pressure on the batsman which forced them to loose wickets. The visitors managed to score 126 runs thus lost the match. Sunil Narine was the top bowler taking 2 wickets by giving away only 19 runs. Fletcher was named as the player of the series as he was the top scorer in the series.
