Ireland vs Scotland ODI Series 2014 Schedule


Just as the world cup is closing in all the participating team are making tours to play some international ODI cricket to ensure being in form. The Scotland team toured Ireland for a three match One Day series to be played in the city of Dublin in Ireland.

The first match was a one sided affair in the tournament as the Irish who bowled first in the match were successful in using the conditions well. The bowlers bowled to their strength and took wickets at regular interval. The top scorer for the team came lower down the order as Michael Leask scored 50 runs in the match. Calum MacLeod the opener on which the whole team was dependent scored only 25 runs in the match. The young debutant Craig Young from Ireland stole the limelight in his first match. He took 5 wickets in the game and stopped the Scottish team at a score of 172. It was an easy chase for the home team as almost all the batsmen contributed for the cause of winning. Kevin O’Brien was the star batsman for the team as he scored 56 runs and remained unbeaten as the Irish team won the 1st match quite easily.

The 2nd match of the series yet again saw the home side field first after winning the toss. The bowlers of Ireland made sure that they Scotland team never ran away with the match and constantly took some wickets to ensure that runs were never easy to score. Richie Berrington was the star batsman for the team as he scored an unbeaten 101 runs. He was supported by Josh Davey as he scored 40 runs. The rest of the team never contributed well and thus they were able to score only 221 runs. Max Sorensen was the top wicket-taker as he took 4 wickets in the game. He was helped along by the young Craig Young who took 3 wickets in the match. The Irish team faced a small fumble in the middle as they lost too many wickets quite cheaply. Kevin O’Brien later played an important role in the match scoring 67 runs and laying a platform for yet another victory for the home side.

The 3rd and the final ODI saw Scotland fielding first for the first time in the series they were successful in taking wickets up early and thus creating troubles for the home side. Kevin O’Brien and John Mooney ensured that the team reached a good score. Mooney was the hero of the match as he scored 96 runs to take his team to a score of 241 runs in 50 overs. Majid Haq took five wickets in the match. The Scotland managed to win this last game of the series as Calum MacLeod scored 116 runs and Hamish Gardiner scored 89 runs to take their team home. Craig Young was successful in taking a wicket in the match thus taking his series total to 9 wickets. For his performance in the debut series he won the man of the series award in his debut series as Ireland won it 2-1.
